Graduation

You must notify the University of your intent to graduate. Please refer to the academic calendar and look up the activation period for filing the Intent.

There are three graduation ceremonies each year:

  • Spring semester (around the first or second week of May)
  • Summer semester (around the second week of August)
  • Fall semester (around the second or third week of December)

Below is the commencement site that will give you more information on procedures. You need to reserve a seat if you plan to attend graduation. Please let us know if you are coming so we know who to expect.

Commencement Details

If you would like to walk in a different semester from the one in which you graduate, send an email to gradthesis@psu.edu.  Provide your name, PSU id number, your degree, and when you would like to walk.  You will be contacted with further information.

Renting of regalia is handled through the bookstore here on campus.

When ordering your regalia, remember that you are a Geography major receiving your Master's. This determines the color hood you will need. (gold and yellow)

Like other graduate degrees, MGIS and MS SDS degrees will be awarded in the Graduate School ceremony. The Department of Geography is part of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, but the College of EMS ceremony is for undergraduates.

We usually have a small reception before or after the graduation ceremony.

The registrar mails diplomas four weeks after the graduation date. In addition to making sure your address is correct in LionPath, you should make sure your address is correct in PSU's main database (work.psu.edu). The registrar uses the latter when mailing your diploma.
